Hi Will,

I know this post is 8 years old.
However, I wanted to tell you how much my kids enjoyed your workshops at their Catholic highschool last week. Not every school is the same and I'm glad you were able to spend a week with our students, inspiring them to be more passionate with their writing and giving tips on how to improve their writing skills.

My youngest was thrilled to win a signed copy of Sidekicks and enjoyed reading it.
He finished it in 2 days and isn't usually a big reader. He has asked me to look for your other books as well.
Keep up the good work and be proud for what you've achieved so far!
Looking forward to, hopefully, many more book releases in the future!

Hi Will,
I am Anastasia Morris from Quakers Hill High school
I was raging at the email that the Catholic church sent I was so fustrated and I loved how you replied in such a courteous way I personally would not like to go to this school if that is how they treat people with different a sexuality, I personally am Bi and have come out to alot of people now but I have not told many people I was too scared. I thought if I did my life will turn upside down but after your talk today, at the Sydney Writers Festival 2019. You inspired me to say it otherwise I would be living a lie. The hardest person I had to tell was my boyfriend, but he is very supportive and does not care what my sexuality is.

I am very grateful so thank you so much, I love your books they are very interesting and inspiring and my baby sister has cerebral palsy, epilepsy and lephansephanie (unsure how to spell it), and she has just turn't 10, I don't know how much longer she may live but I hope it is older enough so I die before her because that's how it is supposed to be.

Thank you again and keep up the good work. Can't wait till you next book comes out!
And I know all the kids that came to the festival from my school.said you were there favourite and know they would love to meet you again! I would like to meet you again. You know my school librarian you may know her as Judith but I know her as Mrs Ridge * hope you can visit my school one day! I might speak to Mrs Ridge.
Best of luck in the future

Hi Will, I'm a big fan of The First Third and The Sidekicks. I was wondering if you have ever been asked about the possibility of having your novels adapted for film or television. Have you been approached by anyone?

You are a wonderful speaker and your passion humour and sincerity were a revelation .
De La Salles loss was our gain and I think you are brave and strong .

I am 69 years old, and I was educated in Catholic schools from first grade through graduate school. Back then, it was a very bleak environment for a young gay boy. It always surprises me when I see remnants of that dark-mindedness in today's culture. One huge difference between 1966 and 2016: YOU and gay men and women like you!!! I had no opposing voice to show me the way. Keep doing all that you are doing. May the Lord of us all bless you and protect you from the hurtful ways of His followers.

I've been considering what to write for the past week. I feel sad and surprised that this can happen, in 2016, in Australia. I want you to know that there are many people out there for whom this would have been a non-issue. Congratulations on coming out- this is why your book is so important for children- it would be lovely to see the angst associated with this reduced for future generations. I hope you can continue promote the book among other schools, and I sincerely hope that one day you appear at the school my children attend, so they can have some of these important messages reinforced from somebody who isn't their parents.

Have to say Will the most religious impact my catholic high school had on me at the time was instilling fervour for the occult. I believe Yeats had a similar reaction, I would've loved to hear him speak at my school, as much as I loved hearing you at our CBCA day teaching writing to students at the State Library of NSW. I am now a pretty practicing catholic-ish woman who, as an individual with her own tastes, plucks from the options available. Denying any child in Australia the right to see themselves represented in their teachers and mentors is condoning the bigotry that rips countries apart. #oneworld

Hopefully when the book is released you will be invited back to the school. Maybe their Year 12, (Senior) class) will be better judges of what is appropriate for the students than the parents. Catholic (and other students in a religion based school) might be very confused if it appears priests and pastors are able to sexually abuse children, and get away with it for years, but they are not allowed to hear about the struggles other young people face growing up. By the way, in the New Testament of the Christian Bible, Jesus did not mention homosexuality. The Old Testament is selectively used by some Christians as law. Not even Jews abide by many of those 'laws'.
